The impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on retailing in Vietnam: current situations and recommendations

The COVID-19 pandemic seriously impacted almost the fields of Vietnam economy in shortterm and long-term, including retail industry. While, retailing is regarded as one most strongly-impacted fields, but it also expresses quick capability recovery comparison to other sectors. This study has been carried out evaluate analyze holistically major effects on industry with nine critical impacts: number shoppers decreases; great volatility rental market; closed shops, maximum staff cuts; sales decline seriously; explosion e-commerce home delivery services; change campaign decrease marketing budget; invest building new online channels; convert consumption from offline increase stockpiles goods epidemic. Based these analyses, author recommends several significant suggestions for government (1) directly support by cash closed-stores during traditional retailing; (2) quickly implement liquidity packages offer credit preferential interest rates modern retailers; (3) solving problems labor shortages businesses that produce essential products; (4) increasing stockpile source manage efficiently market supply. While some are delivered overcome recession boost growth after pandemic: understand customers' problems; reshape business strategy; keep touch stakeholders expand channels. above recommended basis bright outlooks both macro factors internal market.
